Colour Palatte

As I mentioned in the last post, I have found a few colours that I am leaning towards for the apartment. I found them while surfing the Design*Sponge website, and they just so happen to be a sneak peek from béatrice peltre very cool home. She probably lives in Portland Oregan, because that seems to be where all the super creative people with fun/beautiful homes and successful artisan business are.

Not only does beatrice have neat colours, but her decor is so very much up my alley. I love that the walls are neutral yet still SHOUT with colour.  I also enjoy that despite all the colour in her home, she pulls it off in a way that is not in the least bit tacky. That can be a difficult feat, but one I hope to overcome in my decorating.

Then I found this photo on flickr while searching for green kitchens. I really like the aqua with the green, and yep, that’s the route I’ll go, me thinks!I think it’s lovely. And easy to accomplish, too. This time it’s all about uncluttered free-spirited colour-loving!

On a similar but different note, I have received so many kind offers to help paint, decorate, etc. Thanks to Laura, Sally, Robbie, Kristi, Melissa (who has been volunteered by Kristi) and Auntie Cindy… I’ll be pulling all of you in for some inpiration!

The Before.

I spent the afternoon cleaning my future apartment. I finished the living room, kitchen, and bathroom. They are ready to paint and enjoy. The bedroom (sorry, no photo for some reason), hallway, landing and stairwell are not clean yet. Soon!

Here are some photos that I took today. These were capture before I cleaned… hopefully you can’t see the grime that was once in the bathroom. I can’t wait to get this fancified. I’m actually excited to purge (more) of my things. How bizarre is that?!

I’ve been searching design blogs like designsponge, decor8, and apartment therapy for inspiration for the space. I know I want paint that is not white but that is very light, spurts of colour, and a sense of vintage modernism. Think Anthropologie meets Ikea. And gosh, what would YOU do with those cupboards!?

In my next post I’m going to share some of the colour palates that have peaked my interest… in the meantime, please feel free to share any photos you may think would work with the space!

Hello red.

redcouch

I have always wanted a red couch, and I was very happy for my friend when she got hers, but a bit envious as well. Now that I’m moving into my own space, I need a smaller couch and this is just perfect! It’s 80″ long and it will fit as the centre piece of the teeny-tiny living space. I also believe that it will fit into the room, and not need to be cut in half like was required of my last couch.

I was planning to spend the day at the apartment, cleaning and sorting and preparing to move some of my belongings. That didn’t happen. I spent the day instead with my aunt, uncle and cousin, and to be honest, that was more fun! I will go over tomorrow to clean the living room so that I can prepare to paint that space (living room and kitchen are joined, so the kitchen will need to be done also.) Maybe I will bring my camera and take some photos for this blog of mine? I have a feeling I will continue to document the renovation/decorating progress of my apartment as I go along, so please feel free to share any suggestions or comments you may have. I will be looking for extra inspiration here and there!

Starting anew… again.

It’s time to start fresh. Again. Originally my plan was to live with my Grams until September when I return to school for photography. However, life unfolds different each time, and again my plan didn’t fit with reality.

Being twenty five, it has been a challenge to adjust to living with a parental figure, and what with more and more life changes, I have realized that it’s better to be happy with my situation now than save money now for school later. The decision has been made - I am moving into my own space!

The apartment is (again) owned by my parents, this time overtop of my mom’s Homeopathy practice. It’s a lot smaller than my three bedroom from before, but in an effort to declutter and live a less materialistic life, this comes at a good time.

There are small nuances that I really like about the apartment. The stairs are all made from solid wood, there are two large stained glass windows (in the living room and bedroom) that let in the most gorgeous light, it is heated/cooled using green energy (Geothermal), the bathroom is large, the floors are hardwood (except the bedroom - that one will be an adventure), and I have been given permission to paint. That will also be an adventure.

When I say small, I mean it! The living room will just BARELY fit a couch, tiny coffee table, and one of my white IKEA tables for computer/sewing machine, and I doubt that I’ll be able to fit anything else into the bedroom besides my bed. But I vow to carry it off in style, and I know I can accomplish that goal.

Oh another neat thing is that the attic is accessed through my bedroom closet, and we are exploring the possibility of changing the attic into a loft bedroom.

Say it with me… Ohhhh ahhhh!

Stay tuned for more updates. I have Method brand cleaning products ready to attack the space (it’s rather grimy) and get a start. I will need assistance style-izing the 70s cupboards, so if you have any ideas, please point me in that direction. Oh, and the photo - that’s not my space, but it’s similar, in a way.

Off to the cinema!
